Overland Explorer and FGASA Apprentice
Field Guide Training

You truly grasp nature’s bigger picture during this epic nature
training experience across the magnificent landscapes of Southern Africa.

Departing from Campfire Academy in the Greater Kruger National Park, we travel through 9 different biomes with astounding levels of biodiversity second only to the Amazon. Our journey takes us from Big 5 savannahs in the Lowveld to ancient coastal forests in Tsitsikamma, from the mountain-tops of Lesotho to the open rolling desert of the Kgalagadi. We also visit cultural and historic hotspots like the Cradle of Humankind, Groot Constantia Wineries and the city of Cape Town.

The Overland Explorer is currently the only nature guide and game ranger training programme of its kind in South Africa. Parts of the programme are completed before departure, during overland travel and after our return to Campfire Academy. Trainees follow the curriculum of the Field Guides Association of South Africa (FGASA) and complete the overland programme with a recognised qualification.

Duration: 97 days (full-time)
