Nature Guide/Game Ranger
Examination Prep & Practical

You will have the opportunity to slot in with a close-knit group of
nature guide/game ranger trainees and participate in all of Campfire’s
exciting and diverse activities.

We welcome self-study students who have completed the theoretical components of the FGASA curriculum, who would like assistance with exam preparation ahead of the national sitting and who want to complete their practical assessment. As with all our other students, your training will be completed under the mentorship of a single principal trainer who is a BSc graduate with majors in Zoology & Botany and a Specialist Teaching qualification.

You will have the opportunity to slot in with a close-knit group of field guide/game ranger trainees and participate in all of Campfire’s exciting and diverse activities. Your time with us will provide you with so much more than mere preparation for the exam. You can expect to leave with your passion for nature fully ignited.

Duration: 14 days (full-time)

Theoretical Examination Preparation

  • Revision of all curriculum modules. 
  • Special focus on and assistance with specific learning areas as required by the student. 
  • Preparatory tests & test revision.

Practical Assessment
Preparation

  • Daily Bush Walks & Game Drives 
  • Ecological, Geological & Climatological Interpretation 
  • Identification Skills & Revision 
  • Animal Tracks & Signs 
  • Birding Skills 
  • Interpersonal Communication Skills 
  • Guest Engagement Skills

Your final practical assessment will be conducted at Campfire Academy.

Prerequisites

The following criteria will apply to all students who wish to complete their training with us:
  • ALL FGASA membership, subscription and examination fees fully paid.
  • ALL theoretical components of the FGASA curriculum completed AND passed.
  • Student MUST be in possession of an accredited First Aid certificate valid for at least 6 months thence from the starting date of the assessment period at Campfire.
  • Students MUST pass the theoretical examination in order to qualify for the practical assessment.

You will be responsible for the travel arrangements and costs to reach Campfire Academy or any of our collection points in the Hoedspruit area before the start of the programme, as well as the arrangements and costs from Campfire Academy or any of our departure points at the end of the programme. The costs of optional and social activities not related to the programme and personal purchases remain the responsibility of the student.

If you live in the Hoedspruit area, you may choose to commute to Campfire Academy daily instead of staying with us but this is not recommended. Staying with us allows you to bond with other trainees, maximize your training and ensures you don’t miss out on Big 5 sightings, night drives and Campfire fun that may fall outside the set hours of your training.

A non-refundable deposit is required to confirm enrollment and is deductible from the total programme fee.
